Samuel Akeroyd (1866-1932) was born at Leeds, but by 1911 was living in Sheffield and working as a pattern maker. In 1919, he registered S. Akeroyd Ltd as a cutlery manufacturer. The subscribers (apart from Akeroyd) were A. H. Bedford, an engineer; and J. Jepson, a coal merchant. Capital was £2,000; the registered office was at 184 Broad Lane. However, an advertisement in 1920 for Akeroyd’s pen and pocket cutlery had the address as 9 Eyre Lane. In that year, the firm filed for insolvency and it was wound up by A. H. Bedford.
