We believe this knife was made for Reid & Sons Ltd, a firm of silversmiths which was founded in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1788 by Christian Ker Reid (born in Edinburgh in 1756) and which continues to trade today as part of the Goldsmiths Group. Among the company's most notable commissions are the FA Cup, the Rugby League Trophy and Ernest Shackleton's chronometer.1
Reid & Sons became a Limited Company in 1930 so this knife would probably have been made sometime in the following decade (based on the style) however we have not been able to identify the maker so far.
If you have any information about the knife or the maker, please share it with us via enquiries@hawleytoolcollection.com
