We believe that this knife was made in Sheffield for a company of East End jewellers that was trading in Spitalfields by 1900 (although the knife is stainless steel so would have been made after 1918).
The jewellery company was established by an ancient Jewish family, the Andijar-Romains, that can trace its roots back to the mass expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492. They came to England via Tangier and Gibraltar.
We do not know who made the knife for Romain & Son.
