Charles Hinchliffe was born in 1871, the son of William Henry Hinchliffe, a Victualler and Emma (Knapton), living at The Barley Corn Tavern, 38 Cambridge Street (most recently called Henry's).
Charles became a Cutlery Clerk (1901 Census), married Bertha Glave, and by the 1911 Census, Charles is a Cutlery Manufacturing Manager living at 7 Stanley Road. His son, Charles Henry, is also a Cutlery Manager. Both father and son were possibly working at W.R. Humphreys & Company Ltd, Haddon Works, Denby Street. Following the death of the owner in 1931 Charles took over the business in conjunction with Thomas Humphreys the late owner's nephew. However this only lasted one year as both partners died.
Charles Hinchliffe died on Saturday 26 March 1932, age 61, at his home, 24 Crescent Road, leaving his wife, three sons and one daughter. No record of the company has been found beyond the death of Charles.
