Wolstenholme was a relatively common name in the cutlery, electro-plate, and Britannia metal trades. Thus identifying this maker is difficult – not least, because there was more than one with the initials ‘J. A.’
John Arthur Wolstenholme (1872-1947) might be a likely candidate. He was born in Sheffield, the son of John, a steel rod roller, and his wife, Ann. John Arthur became a commercial traveller in toys and fancy goods, who lived at Moor View Road, Woodseats, before the First World War. After 1918, he continued to work as a commercial traveller; however, in the National Register (Census) 1939 he was enumerated as a wholesale cutlery merchant, living at Crawshaw Grove.
He died at the Royal Infirmary on 10 February 1947. He was buried at Burngreave Cemetery, leaving £981.
