An entry in the Sheffield City Archives listings indicates the company were a manufacturer producing high speed steel and possibly involved in making brake drums in the period 1925-30. Their address is given as 97 Mary Street. The Sheffield Daily Telegraph on 12 March 1932 p15 reveals two of the company's directors in an article revealing the formation of Walker Castings Ltd - Edwin Walker (1895-1984) of 54 Belgrave Road and Harold Wolstenholme of Edensor, Bushey Wood Road. A newspaper report (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 7 December 1931 p5) of Edwin Walker's marriage to Gwendoline Tofield on 5 December 1931 also identifies him as he was managing director of Walker Steel Works Ltd. After the war he later became President of the Sheffield Trades Historical Society. Edwin Waker died at Eyam House, Eyam, Derbyshire on 29 January 1984 leaving £110,750.
A report of the funeral of Charles Christopher Walker (1865-1937) of 10 Tapton House Road in the Sheffield Independent on 17 May 1937 p3 identifies him as the father of Edwin Walker. Amongst the other mourners was also H. Wostenholme representing Walker Steel Works Ltd. Charles Christopher Walker is referred to as 'one time proprietor of the firm Walker, Eaton and Co., engineers and iron founders, Wicker Iron Works, a firm which was owned by Mr. Walker's family for 200 years. He retired from business in 1902'. He died aged 72 which meant he retired at the age of 37!
