This table knife would have been made in Sheffield (probably in the nineteenth century), but not necessarily by Randall & Co (a name which has not been found in any Sheffield directory). More likely, Randall & Co was a retailer. One candidate is Randall & Co, a ‘manufacturing ironmongers and commission agents’, which was located at Hockliffe Road (‘nearly opposite the Wesleyan Chapel’) at Leighton Buzzard. A typical advertisement offered for sale table knives (with ivory handles) and plated tea services (Leighton Buzzard Observer and Linslade Gazette, 9 November 1869). Randall’s was active until the early 1870s, when it became insolvent.
