Denton & Down was apparently founded in about 1907 at Bartlett’s Buildings, Holborn Circus, London.
It was known as a silversmith, cutler, and specialist in medals, cups, and badges. In 1907, a silver mark ‘D&D’ was registered at Sheffield Assay Office. The partners were Claud C. R. Denton and George Clark Denton. They split in 1912, when the latter continued the business.
The firm later operated at Ely Place, Holborn Circus, under Henry Hutton Bourne and Henry Hann Edwards. When their arrangement was dissolved in 1935, Henry Hann Edwards continued alone. After the War, Denton & Down remained at Ely Place. By the early 1960s, Denton & Down and the Ely Place office had been acquired by John Taylor (Silversmiths) Ltd.
