Charles Edwin Biggins was born 0n 5 November 1887 to father William, who was a table knife manufacturer, and mother Clara (nee Brownhill). They lived at 37 Prospect Road in Heeley.
By 1901, Charles’ father had died and possibly due to their straitened financial situation because of his death, Charles (age 14) and his brother John (age 16) were both working as cutlers. In 1911, Charles, still living in Prospect Road, listed his occupation as Table Knife Cutler. Two brothers, John, and James, living at the same address were also Table Knife Cutlers.
On the 25th June 1916, Charles married Alice Timperley and the 1939 register shows them living in Warminster Road and Charles’ occupation given as Cutler. It is not known where any manufacturing took place during this time.
Charles died on 22nd March 1957 leaving £722 1s 7d and is buried in Norton cemetery.
