According to Culme (1987)1, this firm was established in 1908 as Roberts & Doré Ltd, a wholesale silversmiths at Hatton Garden, London. The partners were Tom Rhodes Roberts (1879-1965) and James William Doré (born 1874). Roberts was the son of an accountant and had been born at Cinderford, Gloucestershire; Doré had been born at Chalk Farm, London. The enterprise was also listed in the Sheffield directory (1911) as an electro-plate ware manufacturer in Eyre Street. This was a subsidiary, which in 1912 was registered as a private limited company, Roberts, Doré & Hall (Sheffield) Ltd. The registered offices were at Hatton Garden, London, and Eyre Lane, Sheffield. Capital was £2,000 and the directors included T. R. Roberts, J. W. Doré, William Henry Hall, and T. H. Hodgkinson (Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 3 September 1912). Matheau-Raven (1997)2 stated that the Sheffield side of the firm ceased in 1923, though Roberts, Doré & Hall remained active until 1979, managed by Tom R. Roberts and his son, Trevor Roberts (1907-1980). It was wound up in 1996.
