Josephus Smith (bapt. 21 August 1797) was the son of Benjamin Smith and his wife, Martha. After 1816, Benjamin was listed as a silver and plated ware manufacturer in South Street. He died on 27 July 1832. His son continued the South Street business, making silver and plated measures and table knives. Josephus registered a silver mark (‘J.S’) in 1846.
