George Renton (1846-1915) was born in Sheffield, the son of Alexander Renton and his wife, Elizabeth. His father was Scottish and a tailor in Change Alley. He died from consumption on 26 May 1848, aged 42, and was buried in the General Cemetery. George was apparently raised at East Bank Road by his uncle William – also a tailor, to whom George was apprenticed. George married Elizabeth née Sheldon (d. 1930).
