Shemeld & Oakes
The original partners of this merchant and manufacturer were John Staniforth and James Shemeld (Staniforth, Parkin & Co). Staniforth died in 1800 and his interest in the firm was handled by his executrix, and executors: Elizabeth Poynton, John Ellis, and John Ellis Jun. The firm was continued as Shemeld & Oakes, after James Shemeld was joined by Edward Oakes. In 1811, the address of the enterprise was Orchard Street.
