Lawrence Henry Lee was born in Sheffield in 1846, possibly the son of Lawson Lee (a cutler) and his wife, Jane. Lawrence was a working cutler (apart from a spell as a warehouse man), who apparently never appeared in a directory. However, he was a specialist in exhibition sportsman’s knives.
