The company was originally formed in 1898 by two brothers Albert and Joseph Yates. They started out as makers of caps and ferrules for fish eaters but soon moved into making cutlery themselves.The Beatson family's involvement in the company began in 1947 with William Beatson, grandfather of the current MD.
