Gibson & Swift, cutlery and plate manufacturer, was launched at the end of the 1890s. One partner was James Gibson. In 1893, he was a clerk, living at Goodwin Road, Heeley. In the Census (1901), he was a 49-year-old London-born cutlery warehouse clerk. ‘Swift’ may have been 56-year-old silversmith John James Swift, who lived in Chesterfield Road, Meersbrook.
