Established in 1789, this enterprise was one of the first in the Britannia metal trade. It was a Quaker firm, with Samuel Broadhead and Edmund Gurney as partners. However, the original partners may have been Robert Sporle and Edmund Gurney. (A silver mark was registered in 1792 by Robert Sporle and Edward – sic? – Gurney, plate workers, Paradise Street.) In 1797, Broadhead, Gurney & Sporle was listed as a fine scissors smith and manufacturer of silver hafted table knives, Workhouse ....
