Charles Furness (sometimes spelled Furniss) was born in Sheffield in about 1844. He was apparently the son of George and Elizabeth Furniss, who lived in Moore Street in 1861. George was a table knife hafter; so, too, was his son. In 1868, Charles was listed as a table knife manufacturer in Young Street, with a residence in Club Gardens.
