George Ellis was born in Sheffield in 1863. He was the son of silver smith George Ellis and his wife, Priscilla. The family worked and lived in the Shoreham Street area. According to a later advertisement, George Ellis was founded in 1893. In 1902 a silver mark was registered ‘GE’ from No. 100a Charles Street.
