William C. Eaton’s Melbourne Plate Works registered a silver mark in Sydney Street in 1883. It manufactured silver, electro-plated ware, and table cutlery. The owner had been born in Holbrook, Yorkshire, in 1848. He was the son of John and Harriett Eaton. In 1861, when the family was living in Sheffield, John Eaton was a letter carrier and shoe maker.
