This cutler was born in about 1807 in Norwich, Norfolk. By 1841, he was living in Pea Croft, Sheffield, with his wife, Eliza, and Thomas Earnshaw (who was aged 60 and perhaps his father). Thomas and Robert were cutlers. In the Census (1851), Robert was in Bernard Street as a spring knife manufacturer, employing six men and two apprentices.
