In 1828, James Broadhead was listed as a manufacturer of table knives at 55, Nursery Street. (Thomas Broadhead, silver plater and chaser, had been listed at the same address in 1822.) No other details have yet been found on James. However, on 14 July 1832 The Sheffield Independent carried an advertisement ‘To Table Knife Manufacturers’, featuring the sale of the effects of Mr Broadhead in the Wicker.
