James Morton
This cutler combined those traditional staples – manufacturing knives and running a beer house. In 1841, he was probably the James Morton, who was listed as victualler at Millsands Tavern. The Census (1841) showed that he was also a grinder. In 1849, he was listed as both grinder and victualler at that tavern. At the start of the 1850s, he was living in Bailey Street and grinding table knife blades, while operating the Green Seedling. By 1856, he was a table knife manufacturer in Garden St....
