Few details are available on Jonathan Smith (c.1777-1854), who was a scissors manufacturer. He appeared in a directory (1841) as a scissorsmith at Redhill, but by 1849 had moved to Bowling Green Street, near Kelham Island. In the Census (1851), he was enumerated as a widowed 71 year-old scissors manufacturer, who was living and working with his son, John (aged 36).
