Samuel Rhodes (1812-1867) was born in Sheffield, the son of John (a scissor smith) and his wife, Ann. Samuel was enumerated in the Census (1841) as a [scissor] grinder in School Croft, living with his wife Martha. In directories, he appeared at that address in 1849, though the Census (1851) listed him at Campo Lane. He apparently employed four men, a woman and three girls (the Census page is not very legible). In the 1850s, he relocated to Carver Street, from where he advertised in 1856. He died....
