This scissors smith was the grandson of Thomas Gray, who had worked in Pitsmoor as one of the first fine scissors makers in the town. Clement himself was the eldest son of Thomas Gray, Upperthorpe, who worked in the fine scissors trade for sixty years. In directories, Thomas was at Pyebank (1845); Fitzwilliam Street (1849); Bath Street (1860); and Allen Street (1868-76). He employed two girls and two boys in 1871.
