Joseph Stringer & Sons
Joseph Stringer (1873-1936), scissors manufacturer, was born in Stannington, the son of Samuel (a razor-scale presser) and Louise. Joseph moved with his wife, Florence, to Halifax, where he repaired and ground cutlery. His sons, Joseph Victor (1899-1942) and Willie (1904-1975), were born in Halifax. Joseph Stringer & Sons, scissors manufacturer in Holly Lane, appeared in a Sheffield directory by the mid-1920s. Joseph, of Louth Road, died on 29 February 1936, leaving £607 (Florence died....
