Robert William Handley
Robert William Handley (1843-1909) was born in Sheffield, the son of Charles Handley, a silversmith, and his wife Mary. Robert was trained as a scissors forger and in 1873 rented a dwelling house / warehouse / workshop at 127-129 Scotland Street, where he launched a business as a scissors manufacturer. When the ownership of the premises changed hands, Handley was forced out in December 1877 (though it took a court case by the owner to achieve that).
