The first appearance of William Evans (c.1800-1869) in a directory was in 1833, when he was listed as a table knife manufacturer and stag and buck scale cutter, 7 Smith’s Square, Bailey Lane. He partnered George Alexander Stevens (unidentified) as a table knife manufacturer, but this was dissolved in 1834 and it was never listed in a directory. Evans married Mary Ann Glossop in 1836.
