Joseph Epworth was a spring knife manufacturer, who was born in Sheffield on 22 February 1784. He was the son of Joseph Epworth (a yeoman) and his wife Ann Hobson (Epworth, 20221). He was apprenticed in 1798. He appeared in a directory in 1828, when he was listed as a pen and pocket knife manufacturer at Lead Mills, Pond Street. He also apparently cut bone and made buttons.
