John Edward Cutler
John E. Cutler, who was born in Sheffield on 9 September 1828, was the son of Hiram Cutler, and his wife, Sarah. He apparently did not join the family firm, but began trading alone. In 1856, he was a ‘merchant and manufacturer’, The Laurels, Glossop Road. In the Census (1871), he described himself as an American merchant in cutlery, steel, and tools.
