Thomas Bingham (bapt.1800-1843) was listed as a pen knife manufacturer at ‘the foot of Rockingham Street’ in 1837. In 1841, Broad Lane was his work and home address, where he employed two apprentices (one of them George Wright) in the manufacture of pen, pocket, and desk knives. He died on 16 June 1843, aged 43, at Rockingham Lane and was buried at Carver Street Methodist Chapel.
