James Ashberry (c.1796-1848) was a spring knife manufacturer. He worked in Lambert Street in the late 1820s and 1830s. The Census (1841) and directory listed him as a 45-year-old fine pen-knife manufacturer in Radford Street, living with his wife, Mary, and two children. He died on 6 April 1848 at the house of his daughter in King Street, Upperthorpe. His obituary described him as ‘extensively known and highly respected’, though did not state his age (Sheffield Independent, 15 April 1848).....
