In 1951, J. T. Epworth & Son Ltd was listed at Portland Works, 55 Arundel Street and Progress Works, Sudbury Street. The enterprise had family links with Joseph Epworth, a spring knife manufacturer. According to a descendant (Richard Epworth, 2011), Joseph Tom Epworth (1885-1965) – who had no involvement in cutlery – financed his son William Edward Epworth (1917-1974) in the launch of the firm in 1946.
