Albert Birtles (1881-1959) was the son of Isaac Birtles and his wife, Jane. When Albert was born, Isaac was a table knife cutler and the family lived in Harwood Street. In 1911, Albert was an assistant manager at an electro-plate works. In the early 1920s, Albert started his own business as a cutlery manufacturer.
